Fugitive Glue

At L.D. Davis, we manufacture a wide variety of eco-adhesives, such as animal glue or water-based adhesive, which are used in many different applications.  Our goal is to be an adhesive supplier for all applications, not just the ones our own line of manufactured adhesives serves.  In addition to manufacturing our own adhesives, we also distribute adhesive products that we do not manufacture from other companies, such as HB Fuller hot melt adhesives or PUR glue.  One other kind of adhesive that we distribute, but do not manufacture is called fugitive glue.

Fugitive glue is also commonly known as credit card glue, or even “booger glue,” in less formal situations.  You can commonly see fugitive glue as the stretchy strip of glue you find attaching your new credit card to the letter with which it comes.  Fugitive glue is easily peeled off the surface to which it is attached.  It forms a very strong bond with many surfaces, but cannot be resealed once the original seal has been broken.

Benefits of Fugitive Glue:

  • Fugitive glue is usually available in many forms, from dots to strips to liquid form.
  • Fugitive glue is also available in the form of a hot melt adhesive for use in a glue gun or dispenser.
  • These glues are are generally safe to handle.
  • Fugitive glue comes in a wide range of tack levels.
  • Always removable with virtually no damage to the surface.

Fugitive glues are often used in marketing applications, for direct mail campaigns with return envelopes, for example. Fugitive glue is easy to use and can be instantly peeled off the surface but still forms a strong bond while attached. The bond is intended to be temporary, and fugitive glues cannot be reused or resealed once the glue has been peeled off the surface.  Fugitive glues are very safe to handle, but can sometimes contain latex so those with latex allergies should be careful to confirm the ingredients of a fugitive glue before they handle the product.

Types of Fugitive Glue:

Water-based fugitive glue:

Composed mainly of natural latex, water, and acrylics

Hot melt fugitive glue:

Composed mainly of APAO, or amorphous polyalphaolefin.

Fugitive glue is sometimes called a Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA) because they can act in the same manner and can contain similar properties to PSA’s.  PSA’s come in many forms; foam PSA’s are common.  While some fugitive glues may resemble PSA’s, not all pressure sensitive adhesives are made with fugitive glue.
